How to Clean and Store Pure Silver Puja and Shringar Items
A little gentle care helps keep your silver puja pieces and Laddu Gopal shringar looking their best. Check regularly used items weekly and before major festivals, but clean only as needed rather than polishing on a fixed schedule.
Start with gentle cleaning
First check the item's care instructions. For plain, undecorated silver, wipe away dust with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. If needed, gently wash with lukewarm water and a little mild dishwashing liquid, rinse thoroughly, and dry immediately with a soft cloth. Let crevices dry fully before storing.
Do not soak pieces with stones, pearls, enamel, glued details, fabric or other decorative finishes. Use a dry, soft cloth and ask the seller for item-specific advice. For persistent tarnish or intricate work, consult a professional jeweller rather than scrubbing harder.
What to avoid
Avoid toothpaste, abrasive powders, scouring pads and stiff brushes. Skip bleach, household cleaners, acidic kitchen mixtures, boiling water and foil-based cleaning hacks. Do not use silver dips or polishing products unless confirmed suitable for that particular piece. Avoid repeated polishing of delicate details or intentionally darkened finishes.
Store clean, dry and separately
Moisture can encourage tarnishing, so never put silver away while damp. Wrap each piece in a clean, soft, dry cloth or a pouch designed for silver, then place it in a dry, closed container. Keep chains untangled and delicate ornaments separate to reduce scratches. Avoid humid bathrooms, direct contact with rubber bands, and storage beside cleaning products.
After use, gently remove dust and residue before putting pieces away. For jewellery, keep perfume, lotions and cleaning sprays away from the surface. Inspect stored items occasionally and refresh any damp packaging.
